Uphold Health Announces Margaret Overton, M.D., to Board of Advisors
Chicago, IL — Uphold Health announces the appointment of Margaret Overton, M.D., to its Board of Advisors.
“Margaret embodies the balance of applicable medical expertise and creative design thinking that bridges cutting-edge innovation with real-world implementation.”, Maggie Norris, Chief Executive Officer.
Margaret is a recognized leader in the field of Anesthesiology with over 30 years of practice at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. She graduated from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and extended her education with a Masters in Fine Arts-Creative Writing at the Art Institute of Chicago.
In her second book, Hope for a Cool Pillow, Margaret advocates for timely and concise end-of-life care planning from the perspective of a physician, daughter, and student of American health care. The book draws on her experiences as a doctor caring for her own aging parents, as well as studies at Harvard, to make a universal case for informed choices in end-of-life care. She continues to advocate for planning in her essay, Questioning End-of-Life Care, published in Northwestern Medicine Magazine.
“I have come at all my writing from the angle of ethical dilemmas, and medical ethics are particularly problematic. We just can’t seem to solve this problem, given the way our healthcare system is structured today, in our political and economic environment.” Margaret Overton, M.D.
As an accomplished physician, mother, author, and advocate, Margaret has approached life’s toughest challenges with grace and humor. Her voice elevates the conversation and we are grateful and honored to have her on board.
